February 13 and 14 definitely add a little spice to life as we send an extra note, text or simple yet meaningful gift to share our appreciation of lovely humans in our lives. The random fun of what folks do for others on these days runs the gamut and often involves a sensory food or beverage experience.
In researching some of the food traditions, we found that many herbs grown right here in the Piedmont on top of the herbal list for sensory delight and much more!
In the modern language of love, Lavender means ‘devotion and undying love‘. Oregano signifies joy and happiness, sweet, heady-scented fennel means ‘flattery’. Thyme brings with it the meaning of affection, which is perfect for either young love or deep friendship. And last but not least, for the Greeks, it was said that basil ‘exists only to drive men insane.’ Later, though, basil became a symbol of love in Italy, and it has retained that symbolic meaning ever since.
