Market is ON...rain or shine.
What do we do when the weather map stubbornly shows RAIN during market? We go into rain mode for the most EFFICIENT SHOPPING possible in order to secure all of the goods needed for the week and to celebrate all of the Mothers in our lives!
Rainy Day Advice:
PRE ORDER where possible! It makes a SCORE guaranteed and standing under your umbrella chatting with folks in line is just the last step to coming home with those 'must haves'.
Check out the vendor list
Plan out your purchases and path using the booth map for vendor locations (TWO CHANGES - Heritage Harvest has moved next to Goat Lady and Gnomestead Hollow will be back with ramps next to UpDog).
Wear Rain Gear - Anorak, poncho, rain boots. Bring market bags, wallet, stroller for bags (AND children!) plus that list you just made! Keep sending positive vibes for a DRY market (...there will be wine).
THANK YOU for being intrepid market shoppers - we are so glad that you were born. Here's to Mother's Day, one of 365 days that we may celebrate the nurturers in our lives!
BE ON THE LOOKOUT
Seen this beautiful, but odd looking bulb hanging around market? It is chock-full of great nutrition, and a humble member of the cabbage family. Grab a Kohlrabi this Saturday and check out how to incorporate this local veg into your weekly meals.
Y'all Sauce Co. (Josh) is back slinging your favorite tasty Southern sauces. Swing by and pick up a bottle of our Kentucky Henry Bain, Tennessee Jezebel and Mississippi Comeback. All three are sure to make a dish more flavorful. Free samples will be available. Want to know more? Check out our website.
What is a RAMP? Allium tricoccum is a North American species of a wild onion found in eastern US and Canada. A ramp tastes stronger than a leek, which generally has a mild onion flavor, and are more pungently garlicky than a scallion. Why do people go crazy over them? It's because ramp season is short, and hence quantities are limited and are typically foraged. Sustainably foraged ramps will not have the full bulb and root on them in order to preserve the patch for increased growth the following year. SO snag these gems while you can…only two more weeks is what we hear!
Make sure you understand what is in season so you have the right expectations. You're already on track being signed up for the newsletter!
We know lines get crazy and the gettin' is GOOD. Just be sure your line is not interfering with another booth and your neighbor is getting the same opportunity as you are.
Come prepared with a rain jacket, shopping totes, coolers (even just to keep in the car), and small bills. However, most vendors do take a card!
Be respectful of the produce.
Talk to the farmers and staff. Our community is everything - experiencing and learning together is important to us all!
Show a farmer how you used their produce/product. They love that stuff!
CFM welcomes well behaved dogs within the market space, as long as owners and dogs adhere to the following market guidelines for pets:
Dogs on SHORT leashes are allowed at the market.
Please be mindful of your pet’s demeanor and behavior in large crowds when deciding whether or not to bring your furry friend.
Pets MUST use the restroom OUTSIDE of the market area! Please do dispose of waste appropriately.
Dogs are allowed due to the fact that the market is on private property; however, in order to be compliant with current health department regulations, animals are not allowed inside of a vendor booth.
