Summer Food & Frolic

Summer is like a continuous party with food and frolic at the very core! No matter where you are, area farmers who are sustainably producing are bringing their greatest bounty to markets all over the country. YOU know where to find them and get your taste of summer in every bite or sip!

Cobblestone tomorrow and for weeks to come is just that - a Fresh Food FEST full of every summer delight imaginable plus delicious surprises each week and music to soothe the soul or add a kick in your step! Please check out the offerings and some of our highlights and musings - see you Saturday!

Why is the summer explosion of good food easily accessible to many?
Summer offers all producers (small/medium farms, urban farms or home gardens) the generous sun filled opportunity to grow gorgeous, delicious produce (or raise chickens for eggs!) in abundance. This catalyzes summer markets all across our counties making fresh food shopping easily well as yum breakfasts, lunches and suppers!

What happens when the summer explosion ends?
Our year round Piedmont producers keep right on going, 365 days of the year, and participating in year round markets like Cobblestone as well as showing up at small grocers and on restaurant menus! Follow the producers, the best compass for edibles!

How to Beat the Heat Tomorrow
Get on out EARLY for the best shopping PLUS dig into some 'sippin' samplin' to keep you cool and refreshed with caffeine as needed! Along with our beverage folks who are making sure that you have warm/cool options, River Ridge Organics is SHAVIN' some ice for berry SNOW CONES!

Cobblestone is LOCAL - 50+ small Piedmont food businesses in one place!

Local fruit is in FULL swing and it is the best time to make those delicious fruit desserts - with peaches, blackberries, blueberries from several of our vendors around market. However, if you are not the baking type, just check in with all of our awesome bakers and you will be sure to find something featuring these local sweet fruits! OR even find it featured in different ways throughout market - like fresh pressed JUICE from Organix.

Are you finding yourself going home with a glorious summer bounty and wanting to use it all up - either because you are running out of time on your veggies or you just are going home with that much goodness? WELL check out this delicious and simple ratatouille recipe that can be used as a side dish to most meals, served over pasta, mashed potatoes, sauteed kale, or even right out of the pan it is just SO yummy!

LOVE cabbage, but are kinda off the slaw kick and wanting to mix it up? No worries, friends, we have a few recipes to get your ideas flowing and that are even getting us excited about snagging our extra cabbage heads this weekend.

Suspiciously Delicious Cabbage
1 head of cabbage, cored and thinly sliced
1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, minced
2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger
2 tablespoons butter
3/4 cup heavy cream
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

In a very large pan, heat the butter over medium heat until it is melted and starting to bubble a little. Stir in the onion and garlic and cook for about 5 minutes, until softened.

Stir in the ginger and cook for about a minute. Then, add in the cabbage, stirring well to coat it with the butter and other flavors. Cook, stirring occasionally for about 15-20 minutes, until the cabbage has softened and caramelized.

Turn the heat to low and stir in the cream making sure to scrape any browned bits up from the pan bottom. Cover and cook over low for about 10 minutes. Uncover, add salt and pepper to taste. Then cook for a few more minutes, stirring once or twice, to let some of the liquid evaporate. Adjust seasonings as desired and serve.

Grilled Cabbage Recipe
Fire up the grill and pick out some yummies to top those cabbage steaks with - like a scrumptious crumbled cheese or local honey!
